Education

The Education of our children is the future of our state and our country.

Rick Townsend believes in education. Rick has made a career of fighting for Georgia's families for three decades, as a teacher, a coach, a principal, a superintendent and the CEO of our Golden Isles College and Career Academy.  He has worked at all levels of education from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades. Rick has worked across the State of Georgia, in rural and suburban communities. He understands the challenges that our local schools and colleges face as well as those across the State of Georgia.

Education is more than just K-12. Right here in our community we have a two-year, a four-year university and Career Academy. One of the challenges that our schools face is helping students find their passion, their career path for the future, and integrating an educational plan for each student. Some of our children want a four-year degree so integration of dual enrollment at the College of Coastal Georgia may make sense. Some would prefer a nursing degree so early enrollment in Coastal Pines Technical College would get them off to a good start. Others may be interested in HVAC, welding, plumbing or many other high paying jobs that require specialized skills, so apprenticeships and our Career Academy will be more suited to their needs.

Rick will fight for our children and those across Georgia to ensure that they are ready for the future.

Economic Development

Economic Development and Workforce Development go hand in hand.

Economic Development:

Our community depends on economic development. We need new businesses and high paying jobs to support our community and economy. Rick Townsend understands the complexities of this issue and is ready to get to work. Rick will work to protect and strengthen our existing small businesses. He will work to help grow our existing businesses and bring the right businesses to our community to keep our smaller town and coastal atmosphere.

Workforce Development:

One of the most challenging obstacles to economic development is workforce development.  A key question for new businesses and for our local small businesses is "does our community have the right kind of available labor?".

We must ensure that our children not only have the best and proper education, but we must work to keep them in our community. We must retain our local graduates in the area for real economic development.

Crime

Crime is growing in our state and it must be stopped.

Crime in Atlanta and across Georgia is growing. It is moving into suburbs, small towns, and communities across our state. Rick Townsend will ensure that state and local law enforcement will have the tools and resources that they need to stop crime in its tracks.  Drugs and the crime that follows is moving throughout our state. We must redouble our efforts to stop the deadly opioid epidemic in our state that is taking lives and destroying families. Drugs and crime bring gangs and violence and our local law enforcement will have the funding and resources they need when Rick Townsend is our State Representative.

Rick knows we have to provide treatment and services to those who have been affected by these horrible drugs and those that sell and distribute them in our communities must be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Rick Townsend will work with our local Sheriff and law enforcement to listen to their needs and be a partner against crime!

Law enforcement will have the tools they need to fight crime when Rick Townsend is our State Representative.

Responsible Development

Our hometown feel is our charm and overdevelopment would change it all.

Our communities have a quintessential small-town feel. That is the charm of our area. Overdevelopment would fundamentally change our community.  Because our area is such a desirable place, more people want to live here. And because more people want to live here, there are increases in housing prices, and development pressures. We must fight these pressures to preserve our home.

Rick understands what makes our community so great. Rick may not be from here, but he chose our community to call home. He and his family moved here more than ten years ago. His children, Haley, Emily, and Molly grew up here, they worked and went to school here, and they call St. Simons home!

Rick Townsend loves our community, and he will protect it when we send him to the state capital.
